Although Labor Day is not the official way to celebrate the end of summer, people find any excuse to get together and BBQ with family and friends. The celebration can come to life with the add-on of fireworks, which is on many people's minds.  It is important to know fireworks safety and fire safety before handling fireworks. Riverside City has had many fires over the years, and we want to do our best to protect our homes, wildlife and lower the risk of injuries. Leave fireworks to the experts, The National Safety Council advises everyone to enjoy fireworks at public displays conducted by professionals, and not to use any fireworks at home, they may be legal but they are not safe.

If you choose to buy legal fireworks where you live and choose to use them, be sure to follow some of these helpful safety tips:

  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks
  • Older children should use them under close adult supervision
  • Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
  • Never light fireworks indoors or use them near flammable material
  • Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks

An estimated 19,500 fires started by fireworks were reported to local US fire departments in 2018. These fires caused five civilian deaths, 46 civilian injuries, and $105 million in direct property damage.

So grab a blanket and a patch of lawn, kick back and let the experts handle the fireworks show.
